There were 16 teams now there is just 2 left,as the T20 cricket world cup draws to its conclusion. The T2O world cup final will be held between India and Sri Lanka. This match will see a repeat of the 2011 50 0ver world cup final, where India were victorious.
Both sides on route to the final have been in good form, India calmly disposing of South Africa in the semi finals and Sri Lanka beating the defending champions West Indies on the Duckworth Lewis method.A bit harsh to be beaten in such a way but it appeared Sri Lanka were always in control of the match.
The 2 teams were both impressive in the group stages of the tournament,India maybe a bit more so due to the fact the Indians had a 100% flawless record against 2 champions in the group games ( Pakistan former winners and West Indies the then defending champions).Sri Lanka were also impressive with demotions of the Netherlands and against New Zealand in what was a winner takes all match.
So who will come out on top in Sundays final? well its a close call, but if I was a betting man,I would say India. The 2007 winners have been excellent throughout the tournament and haven’t shown any obvious weaknesses.Key players have performed at the key times which is very important.Ashwin,Kohli and Rohit Sharma are crucial to India’s hopes as all have made positive contributions through out,Ashwin crucially controlling the run rate when South Africa seemed on top in the semi-finals.Thats not to say the final is a forgone conclusion,Sri Lanka have done well in this tournament.Against New Zealand they showed impressive grit and determination and in Kusal Pererra you have one of the most destructive batsmen in world cricket. The spin options are exceptional, with Herath,Mendis and Senenayke. Most teams would give there right leg if they could,to have spinners of that calibre. Not forgetting to mention Mahela Jayawardena and Kumar Sangakara who have been excellent servants to Sri Lanka.I just feel India just have a bit to much for Sri Lanka, but with Sri Lanka looking to give Sanagakra a good send off, don’t write of the Sri Lankan’s that easily.
