Hello, good afternoon my Bearded Soldiers, it’s me Ayyaz Malik aka The Bearded Captain, leader of all Beards, flag bearer of all Beards on digital broadcasting media. I am that Beard who tries to make people and I am that Beard who tries to make people smile.
Brothers, I pray you’re well, looking after yourselves and your Beards! Kings we need to talk, about food. Not any kind of food, my favourite kind of food .. burgers! Burgers of the chicken variety with spicy flavouring on them.
Bearded Knights in shining armour, as you know I am from the greatest city on earth, Manchester. Famous for their sports teams, the weather and their massive selection of chicken burger shops, I want to talk about and have a look at one of the veterans of the game.
Roosters in Altrincham is on the outskirts of Manchester. Based on Manchester Road, close to Sale, Roosters makes no bones about it (there’s a pun in there somewhere), that they’re a chicken shop.
The chicken wings make bones about it and the strips don’t, badum.
Roosters, in my chicken burger journey, were one of the early birds (I am not doing this on purpose). From five years ago till now, a lot has changed. There are a lot of chicken burger shops, I am not sure if there are more Tesco’s in Manchester or chicken burger shops.
What would be the ultimate match would be a chicken shop opening in Tesco. I do go off-topic, let’s talk about the burger. Brothers, the double is well-sized and it’s some good eye candy. The burger nicely hangs out of the bun to entice your teeth to go full-on savage mode.
When you do make your first bite, the chicken is well seasoned and the breast is cooked beautifully more times than not (I have had times when the breast has been rubbery) and the chicken batter is a bit extra crunchy.
For all the times I have been here, the buns have always been made nicely and to perfection. Gently toasted where you can feel the warmth of the burger, with the softness to boot. My golden rule, the burger bun should not be cooked too much that you think you’re having toast.
Brothers I have tasted spicy and non-spicy chicken burgers from here. In terms of the spice, it’s more of a traditional curry spice and not a tomatoesque spice. The normal chicken burger without fail has been cooked nicely for it to taste nice on the seasoning side of things.
The way it’s been fried or refried has led to over-crispy. This has happened on their wings, but it’s been on the odd occasion. So brothers my overall thoughts on roosters, yes it’s nice, but their biggest challenge is consistency. For every time you order, maybe one out of 10, isn’t up to scratch. Bear that in mind.
I have spoken to the owner, he’s a very friendly guy and his staff have good customer service skills. There are some drawbacks, there’s no nearby parking immediately outside, but there’s a shopping centre within five minutes away and you could maybe park there.
They take card if you spend £8 and they don’t have a seating area, but as mentioned this place is take away and they make no bones about it. So, guys, there are my thoughts, what’s yours? It’s over and out from The Bearded Captain.
